BookWorm Privacy Policy

BookWorm helps schools manage classroom information and communicate with families. This policy explains what information the service handles, how it is used, and how families and school staff can exercise their rights.

Last updated:

1.Who is responsible for student information?

The school that uses BookWorm determines why student information is collected and how it is used. The school is responsible for that information. BookWorm's operator provides and maintains the service on the school's behalf and processes information according to the school's instructions.

For questions about a student's records, contact the child's school first.

2.Information the service handles

BookWorm is intended to collect only information needed to provide the classroom service. It is not intended to collect children's location data or special-category information, or to use student information for advertising or profiling.

3.How information is used

Information is used to operate BookWorm's educational features, including classroom records, attendance, points, class posts, and communication between school staff and families. School staff may access information appropriate to their role and school responsibilities.

BookWorm does not sell student information or use it for targeted advertising.

4.Children's information and parental involvement

BookWorm is designed for school use and may involve children under 13. The school is responsible for determining the appropriate legal basis and any required notices or permissions for using the service.

Parents and guardians can contact the school to review their child's information, request correction, or ask about deletion. A parent may also use available account settings to export or request deletion of account information.

5.United States education and children's privacy

FERPA. When a school uses BookWorm to maintain education records, the school controls those records. The school and BookWorm should ensure their arrangement and actual practices meet applicable FERPA requirements. Parents and eligible students should contact the school to inspect, review, or request correction of education records.

COPPA. If BookWorm collects personal information online from children under 13, the school and service operator must determine and meet applicable COPPA notice, consent, access, and deletion requirements. Contact the school with questions about a child's information or parental consent.

BookWorm is intended to process student information for educational purposes, not for sale, targeted advertising, or commercial profiling. Additional state student-privacy requirements may apply.

6.United Kingdom and European privacy rights

Where applicable, UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and related data-protection laws may provide rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of personal information, and to receive certain information in a portable format. Contact the school to exercise rights relating to student records. You may also complain to your relevant data-protection authority.

7.Who may access information?

Access depends on account role and school configuration. Students and parents may see information associated with their account or child. Teachers may access classroom information needed for teaching. Principals may access school-level information for oversight.

8.Storage and retention

Information is stored in the service's database. The school determines appropriate retention periods for student records. Ask the school how long particular information is retained and what deletion processes apply.

If you have questions about this privacy policy or how BookWorm handles information, please contact the school your child attends in the first instance.
